Do I need a HomePod or Apple TV?

For Matter switches, plan on one. Apple says you must set up a home hub to add Matter accessories to the Home app.2 Apple counts a HomePod, a HomePod mini or an Apple TV as a home hub. Which Apple Home switches work with no neutral wire?

Two do, and each one needs the maker's own hub. Lutron says that with no neutral in the box you must use the PD-6WCL or the PD-10NXD.12 Lutron says Apple HomeKit, including Siri, works through its Smart Hub.4

Leviton's no-neutral dimmer DN6HD works with Apple Home too, and it requires the Decora Smart Wi-Fi Bridge, the MLWSB.8 Every other switch here needs a neutral wire.

Matter or HomeKit: which should I buy?

Buy Matter if you are not sure. Kasa says the KS205 works in any Matter app, such as the Alexa app, the Google Home app and the Apple Home app.1

The KS200 is the older HomeKit version. Kasa lists Apple HomeKit support for it.6

Which Apple Home switch works for a 3-way light?

The Leviton D315S supports a 3-way light, says its Amazon title, and Leviton lists Apple Home.3 It needs a neutral wire.

The Meross MSS510HK works in a single-pole setup only, so skip it for a 3-way.7

Is there a dimmer for Apple Home?

Yes. The Leviton D36HD is a Matter dimmer rated for 300 W of LED, and it needs a neutral wire.5 For a box with no neutral, the Lutron Caseta PD-6WCL is the choice, through Lutron's hub.4
