The table puts color temperature and CRI side by side, because the Amazon titles lead with lumens and leave out color quality. “Seller claim” means the number comes from the listing, not a maker’s page.

What CRI do I need to see paint defects?

CRI is a score for how true colors look under a light. One General Motors patent on LED paint inspection asks for a color temperature of about 5000K and a CRI of at least 90.2 That is a factory inspection patent, not a detailing standard, so treat it as a starting point.

Of the lights we read, only Elite Lighting’s Polygon hex prints CRI 90 or more on a maker sheet.7 Barrina prints 85 on the BAX72 page.3 LZHOME claims over 85.1 MODERN and Litezone print none.4, 5

5000K or 6500K for detailing?

The patent names about 5000K.2 LZHOME and Barrina are 5000K.1, 3 MODERN and Litezone are 6500K, and so is Elite’s Polygon.4, 5, 7

We found no detailing source on the best color temperature, so 5000K is a match to the patent, not a rule.

Hex grid or linear strips?

The hex kits give more light per kit: 26,300 claimed lumens for the LZHOME kit, 25,920 for MODERN and 20,160 for Litezone.1, 4, 5 MODERN lists 216 watts and Litezone 168 watts. The LZHOME bullet lists a plug cable and a separate hardwire cable.1, 4, 5

The BAX72 is an 8 ft strip at 10,000 lumens that links up to 4.3 Elite’s Polygon hex lists a 180 degree beam, 16,000 lumens from 144 watts and a -4 F to 104 F range.7

How many lumens does a detailing bay need?

A former utility lighting engineer, writing in Fine Woodworking, suggests about 50 foot-candles for a workshop.8 That article is about woodshops, not detailing, so we use it only as a floor.

A typical 20 by 20 foot two-car garage is 400 square feet.9 The LZHOME kit’s claimed 26,300 lumens works out to about 66 lumens per square foot there. That is our arithmetic from the claim. Real output on the floor is lower.

Questions people ask

What CRI is best for car detailing?

The one source we found, a General Motors paint-inspection patent, asks for CRI of at least 90.2

Do any hex garage lights print a CRI of 90?

Elite Lighting’s Polygon hex does, on its maker sheet. We found no Amazon hex kit that prints 90.7

Is 6500K too blue for detailing?

The patent names about 5000K, and two of the three Amazon hex kits we checked are 6500K.2, 4, 5 We found no detailing source that settles it.

Does the LZHOME hex kit plug in?

Its bullet lists one 5 ft power cable with a US plug and one power cable for hardwiring.1

Turn off the breaker before you hardwire any light, set up a stable ladder, and hire a licensed electrician if you are not sure.
