How we check

Every page answers one question. We check the products people actually buy against what their makers publish.

  1. Start with the question people ask. Each page is built around a real search, like "closet light without electricity."
  2. Find the products people buy. We look at what sells on Amazon for that search and keep the ones with strong ratings and many reviews.
  3. Read the maker's own page. For each product we open the maker's spec sheet, manual or product page, copy the exact words, and record the link and date. Amazon titles and bullets are claims; when they disagree with the maker, the maker wins and we flag the listing.
  4. Line them up. We put the facts that decide the question side by side for every brand, like hours per charge or whether a neutral wire is needed.
  5. Pick for the job. One pick for most people, plus picks for special cases. A product that fails the question gets no buy button on that page.
  6. Prices. Prices come from Amazon's product data with the date we read them. We link the main Amazon offer for each product, and when a product has several listings we link the cheapest single pack, not a marked-up reseller. If a price is more than a day old, the page shows a rounded range.
  7. If we can't confirm it, we say so or leave it out.

Electrical safety

  • We don't give wiring instructions. Turn off power at the breaker before touching any switch or outlet, and hire a licensed electrician if you are not sure. Local electrical codes vary.
