Two switches to skip for Home Assistant

GE Cync Smart Switch, no neutral

Home Assistant lists Cync as Cloud Push, so control goes through Cync's servers and stops without internet.8

Amazon Basics Smart Light Switch

The listing says it works with Alexa only, and we found no Home Assistant route for it.9

Is the switch local or cloud in Home Assistant?

Home Assistant labels every integration. Local means the switch talks to Home Assistant inside your home. Cloud means it goes through the maker's servers, so no internet means no control.

Lutron Caseta, Matter, Z-Wave and Hue are Local Push.1, 3, 11, 12 The TP-Link integration, which covers Kasa, and Zigbee are Local Polling.6, 13 GE Cync is Cloud Push.8

Do I need a bridge or a USB stick?

It depends on the brand. Lutron needs its Smart Hub, which Home Assistant's page calls the Caseta Smart Bridge or Smart Bridge PRO.1 Wi-Fi Matter switches need nothing extra (the Leviton D36HD and D315S titles on Amazon say Wi-Fi), but Thread devices need a Thread border router.3 Kasa switches need nothing extra.6

Z-Wave needs a USB adapter on the Home Assistant machine.11 Zigbee needs a USB radio.13 Hue needs a Hue Bridge.12

Which Home Assistant switch works with no neutral wire?

Lutron says that with no neutral in the switch box, you must use the PD-6WCL or the PD-10NXD.2

Inovelli's Blue Series Zigbee switch also works without a neutral, but Inovelli says a bypass must be installed at the light fixture.14 GE Cync's row lists no neutral needed, but it is cloud only in Home Assistant.8

What about Inovelli switches for Home Assistant?

Inovelli's Red Series Z-Wave switch lists Home Assistant with Z-Wave JS, needs a neutral wire, and needs a Z-Wave hub.15 The Blue Series uses a Zigbee radio.14

We left both out of the table because they are not sold on Amazon. Both are local in Home Assistant.
