Solar lights · Our pick
Which solar lights are the brightest?
Buy the omibee 6-head set for the most light of the ones we checked. It claims 6000 lumens.1 Every solar flood we checked that claims 2500 lumens or more lists a battery of only 1800 to 2200 mAh, and none of those makers says how long full brightness lasts.1–4
Our picks

Brightest claim
omibee 2-pack solar flood lights, 6 heads, 6000 lumens
It claims the most light of any solar light here, 6000 lumens, on a 2200 mAh battery, the biggest of the solar floods here, with 30%, 60% and 100% steps.1

Bright, with a stated charge time
SZPOWER 2-pack solar flood lights, 4 heads, 4500 lumens
It claims 4500 lumens and a 4-hour charge in direct sun, on an 1800 mAh battery.2
Watch for: SZPOWER claims 4500 lumens from 197 LEDs. The Philips claims 1200 lumens from 302 LEDs. LED count does not tell you how bright a light is.

2500 lumens, 26 ft sensor
Tuffenough 2-pack solar flood lights, 2500 lumens
It claims 2500 lumens on a stated 1800 mAh battery, with a 26 ft motion sensor.3
Watch for: The listing says to switch it OFF on cloudy and rainy days, and to charge it facing the sun for 2 to 3 days after that.

Each number below is the maker's own claim. We put lumens, battery size and run time side by side because the Amazon title only gives you the biggest number.

Numbers that do not tell you how bright a light is
Claoner 2-pack solar flood lights, 286 LEDs, 2500 lumens
Claoner claims 2500 lumens from 286 LEDs. The Tuffenough claims the same 2500 lumens from 210 LEDs. Compare lumens, not LEDs.4
AGPTEK 12-pack solar driveway/dock lights
Many ground and stake lights we checked on our driveway, walkway and fence pages give no lumen figure. AGPTEK gives about 40 per light, and that is the maker's claim.7
How many lumens do solar lights really put out?
The lumens on these listings are the makers' claims. We found no independent measurement for any of them. The claims run from 6000 lumens for the omibee, to 4500 for the SZPOWER, to 2500 for the Tuffenough and Claoner, to 1200 for the intelamp and Philips.1–6
Small ground lights are far dimmer. The AGPTEK disk markers claim about 40 lumens each.7
Why does a bright solar light go dim in the night?
Look at the battery next to the lumens. The omibee claims 6000 lumens on a 2200 mAh battery. The SZPOWER claims 4500 lumens on 1800 mAh. The Tuffenough and Claoner claim 2500 lumens on 1800 mAh.1–4 None of these listings says how many hours the light holds its top brightness.
The makers that do give hours give them at a low setting. Philips says 8 to 10 hours at 10% brightness on 1800 mAh.6 The intelamp says up to 3 nights in motion mode after a full day of charge.5 The omibee has 30%, 60% and 100% steps, so a lower step is how you stretch the night.1
Are solar flood lights brighter than path and ground lights?
Yes, by a wide margin. Every flood light here claims 1200 lumens or more.1–6 The ground lights that give any number claim about 40.7 Many ground and stake lights we checked on our driveway, walkway and fence pages give no lumen figure at all, so you cannot compare them.
Questions people ask
Which solar light is the brightest?
Of the ones we checked, the omibee 6-head set claims the most, 6000 lumens. It has a 2200 mAh battery and 30%, 60% and 100% brightness steps.1
Does a higher lumen number mean a longer-lasting light?
Not on its own. Hours depend on the setting. Philips claims 8 to 10 hours at 10% brightness, and intelamp claims up to 3 nights in motion mode at 1200 lumens.5, 6 The lumens say how bright the light is at full power. The battery and the setting decide the hours.
Does a light with more LEDs give more light?
Not by itself. The SZPOWER claims 4500 lumens from 197 LEDs. The Philips claims 1200 lumens from 302 LEDs.2, 6 Read the lumens, not the LED count.
Do the brightest solar lights have a motion sensor?
All four solar floods that claim 2500 lumens or more do. Their stated reach is 40 ft for the omibee, 32 ft for the SZPOWER and 26 ft for the Tuffenough and Claoner.1–4
